Chapter Six: The Flightless Bat


Same Day - Emerald Town – 4:32 pm

Back in Emerald Town, May was able to find her little brother, Max, when she went with Amy to visit her friend, Cream’s house. Now they were just waiting for there friends Ash and Sonic to come back with result of looking for there other friends.

“So Ash went with Sonic to find the others?” Max asked May.

“Yeah. I hope they’ll be able to at least find somebody.”

“Hey May? Do you think you could show Cream your Pokemon? I was telling her about them and I really want her to see them.”

“Oh, have you got a little girlfriend already Max?” she asked.

“Eh…. no! She’s just my friend!”

“Alright alright. Let’s all go outside first.”

Max went to get Cream as May and Amy went outside. Cream seemed really excited to finally be able to see a Pokemon. Once everyone was outside, May released her Pokemon.

“Come on out guys!” May shouted as she through out 4 pokeballs. Each opened up one by one revealing a different looking pokemon each time. They all shouted out there calls as they appeared.

“Oh wow!” said Cream.

“Chao-chao!” said Cheese

“Well, Amy already met Blaziken.” said May.

“Blaze!” said the large fire pokemon.

“Heh…yeah!” Amy said with a slight smile.

“This brown one over here is my Eevee. I had her since she was an egg.”

“Eev!” said the little Eevee.

“Aww that ones cute too!” said Amy.

“And this big one over here is my Munchlax. He tends to eat a lot.”

“Munch…” said Munchlax. He already eyed some of Vanilla’s cookies that were on the picnic table. “Munch!” he said as he ran over to the table and started eating them.

“Munchlax!” yelled May. “You weren’t given permission to eat those yet! See what I mean…”

“It’s okay May.” said Cream. “Don’t worry about it. At least he’s enjoying himself.” Cream looked down by May’s leg and saw a little pokemon resembling a turtle hiding behind her. He seemed a bit frightened. “Who’s this one?” she asked.

“Oh that’s Squirtle. He’s my shyest pokemon and is a little scared when it comes to meeting know people… or animals in this case.

“Squirtle…” said the shy Squirtle.

“It’s okay Squirtle.” said Cream in a friendly voice. “We wanna be your friends.”

“Squirt!” He got so frightened that he withdrew into his shell.

“Hey Squirtle…. its okay.” said May.

“Chao?” said Cheese. He flew over to Squirtle and looked inside his shell. Cheese started talking to him in Chao language. Within a few seconds Squirtle started to talk back sounding a little scared. Then Cheese started to talk again trying to sound really friendly. It seems that the two could understand one another. Then to everyone’s surprise, Squirtle came out with a smile on his face.

“Wow!” said Max. “Cheese actually got Squirtle to come out of his shell!”

“Chao chao!” Cheese said to Squirtle while laughing.

“Squirtle squirt!” Squirtle laughed back. It’s really not clear what they were saying to each other, but they both seemed really happy.

“It looks like Cheese and Squirtle are friends’ now.” said Cream.

“That great!” said May smiling. Cheese and Squirtle started to play a game with one another as they were talking.

“So this is all you have?” asked Amy.

“Well I do have more, but they’re all back in my world. I really hope we can back there so I can see them again…”

“Don’t worry. I’m sure Tails will find away for you guys to get home.” said Cream.

“Who’s Tails?” asked Max.

“He’s one of our friends. He’s super smart and knows a lot about mechanics and things. I’m sure he’ll be able to figure something out.”

“I sure hope so.” said May. “Don’t get me wrong, you guys have been really nice to us and we’ve been having a great time, but we’re really concerned about finding away home.”

“We understand.” said Amy. “I could imagine that it must be really scary wondering when you can go home or not.”

“Don’t forget that we still need to find our friends before we can leave.” said Max. “We don’t wanna leave without them.”

“I just hope they’re okay…” said May.



Mystic Ruins: Tails’ Lab – 5:29 pm

Tails and the others brought Tracey and Tikal back to Tails’ Lab for a quick snack break. They were all pretty hungry. Especially Ash. With his big appetite, he can become hungry again within minutes. Sonic just felt like sitting up on the roof of the lab and staring at the sky.

“Mm… this food is pretty good!” said Ash with his mouth full of food.

“Ash!” yelled Misty. “Don’t talk with your mouth full! It’s rude!”

“Pikachu-pi” said Pikachu looking content. Just like old times he thought.

“Thanks a lot for the snack Tails” said Tracey. “It was really nice of you to invite us back here.”

“It’s no big deal.” said Tails. “Just helping out some new friends.”

Tikal was kind of just staring at the food. It’s been a while since she had to eat anything. And she wasn’t familiar with the food she was given.

“Are you alright?” Tracey asked her.

“Uh yes… This is a little embarrassing but … I’ve never seen food like this before.”

“Ah don’t worry. There’s nothing to be embarrassed about. But it is really good. You should just try some.”

“Your right. It would be really impolite of me not to. I’ll try um … what ever this thing is.”

“That’s a sandwich.” Tracey said while having a friendly smile. Tikal then took a small bite.

“Wow this is really good.” she said. “I wish they had these back in my time.”

“A time without sandwiches?” Ash wondered. “That must have been hard.” he said has he continued scarfing down his sandwich.” Misty just put her hand on her head and shook it in embarrassment.

“I was thinking that tomorrow we could go down to my lab in Emerald Town.” said Tails. “I hear your other friend is over there with Amy right?”

“Oh yeah May. I almost forgot. I wonder if she found anybody.”

“So you met up with May already?” asked Tracey.

“Yeah. She was the first one I ran into, well thanks to Sonic anyway. Say… I wonder what he’s doing anyway..”

“He’s up on the roof” said Tails. “He tends to relax up there and think. And he loves to stare at the sky.”

“I’m going to see what he’s up to. Come on Pikachu.”

“Pika-pika.”

Ash walked out side with Pikachu on his shoulder and looked up to the roof. As Tails predicted, Sonic was indeed just staring at the sky.

“Hey Sonic.” said Ash

“Pika.” said Pikachu

“Huh? Oh hey Ash! What’s up?”

“Just wondering what you’re doing. And also, I’d like to thank you for all your help. If it weren’t for you, I’d probably be completely lost.”

“Eh… it was nothin.” Sonic said modestly. “It was the least I could do after running you over like that.”

“Tails says that he’ll take us back to Emerald Town so we can meet up with May tomorrow.”

“Uh… I might just sit out on that one.”

“Why?”

“We’ll let’s just say it’s because of an obsessive pink fangirl who’s gonna beat me up if I show my face.”

“Oh… you mean Amy.”

“Yep.”

Night Babylon – 9:15 pm

Behind Station Square and Central City lies a small dark city known as Night Babylon. It’s the home of some of the biggest night clubs and casinos which attract people from all over to come and visit this city of sin. Tourists who travel alone are advised to stay away from this place. It’s known to have very unfriendly characters living there. Unfortunately one of are heroes wondered in there not knowing of the dangers. It was the pokemon breeder, Brock who after a whole day of searching in Central City decided to go down to the dark city.

“Oh boy, something tells me I shouldn’t have come in here.” said Brock. “But I need to find Ash and the others and try to sort out this whole mess.”

And like the rest of heroes, Brock also took on an animal form. Not a cat, wolf, fox, or mongoose, but a bat. He had large bat ears and even had wings. Though not familiar with the technique of flying they were completely useless to him.

“I’m obviously not on planet Earth anymore.” he thought. “While walking through that city there were other animals like myself walking around and the humans here didn’t even seemed fazed by my appearance. However, they were amazed when I brought out Marshtomp. They’ve apparently never seen a pokemon before. That leaves me to question what exactly happened back in Pallet Forest. That light and that dimension… Was that caused by some kind of pokemon? Was that what Professor Oak was talking about with Tracey?”

Brock stopped for a moment because he thought someone was following him. Thanks to his new, more sensitive ears he can hear some sounds he had never been able to hear before. But when he looked, he saw no one. He was beginning to get a creepy feeling.

“Ugh! Stupid wings! What do I need them for if I can’t use them to fly? I’d like to hurry up and fly outta here.”

Brock continued to walk on when all of a sudden he was approached from behind by two large shadowy figures.

“Hey bub!” said one of the figures

“Uh..?”

He turned around and saw two large animals behind him. One was a bulldog who had really large teeth. He had a black leather jacket on with a leather spiked collar. The other was a rhinoceros who had on a sleeveless shirt on and had tattoos covering both of his arms. He also had a bandana on his head.

“This is our turf!” said the bulldog. “Who do ya think you are showing your ugly mug here?”

“Uh… I’m sorry. I’m just lost is all. Don’t worry, I’ll be leaving now.”

“No so fast!” said the rhinoceros as he grabbed on to Brock shoulder. Brock’s heart was rapidly pounding now.

“Is…something wrong?”

“Anyone who steps on our turf is required to pay a fee. So had over your dough!”

“Heh… I’m terribly sorry… b…but I don’t have any money on me right now.”

“Well don’t worry about that batty.” said the bulldog as he picked Brock up by the collar of his shirt. “We’ll just accept the other method of payment. Pounding the stuffing out of ya!”

Brock took in a big gulp and braced himself but then he heard yet another voice. A voice of a woman.

“Hey you two!” she said.

The two large beasts turned around and saw one of the clubs’ owners. She was a female bat with white hair wearing a black jump suit with white gloves and shoes.

“Well… if it isn’t Rouge.” said the rhinoceros.

“I thought I told you guys not to make trouble around my club.”

“Trouble?” said the bulldog. “What trouble? We’re just makin’ business.”

“Oh really? Then why don’t you two idiots go take your business elsewhere!”

“Who’s gonna make us?” he said as he dropped Brock. “I think you need to be taught a lesson!”

The bulldog made a charge at Rouge running towards her at full speed. But Rouge was easily able to get out of the massive canine’s path with ease by flying above him.

“I think it’s you that needs to be taught a lesson!” she said. After that, she started to go into a drill kick which actually caused a small tornado which sent the bulldog flying.

“Ahhhgh!” he screamed.

Rouge landed on the ground and brushed her self off a bit, looking proud for having defeated the dog. But she didn’t notice that the rhinoceros lifted up a large dumpster at her.

“Ah… WATCH OUT!” Brock yelled as he pulled out a pokeball from his pocket. “GO MARSHTOMP!”

Then out came Brock’s fish-like pokemon named Marshtomp.

“Marshtomp!” said the marshtomp.

“Use Water Gun! Quick!”

I wasn’t till now that Rouge noticed the rhinoceros behind her. He was about to drop the dumpster when a giant stream of water struck him.

“Uuuughhh!” he shouted as he was thrown against the brick wall that his friend was thrown into.

“Nice shot.” said Rouge while looking at Brock and Marshtomp.

“Uh… thanks.” said Brock while blushing.

“Marsh…” said Marshtomp who was also blushing.

“Now why don’t we finish them off?”

“Uh…erm that’s okay!” said the rhinoceros.

“We were just leaving!” said the bulldog. With that, they both took off into a dark alley and disappeared.

“Well that was pointless.” said Rouge.

“Hey…um….thanks for saving me back… there.” Brock said with his face all red. Brock has always had a thing for pretty girls. He’d usually go and flirt with them as soon as he met one. But this was different. He could barely speak without stuttering when talking to Rouge.

“Believe me hon, I wasn’t trying to save you. I just don’t like those big jerks hanging around my club and scaring away my customers. It means less profit for me.”

“Oh…”

“I don’t believe I’ve ever seen you around here before. You new in town?”

“Uh….you could say that…”

“Marsh…” said Marshtomp.

“Now aren’t you a strange creature.” said Rouge to Marshtomp. “Where do you come from?”

“Uh he can’t speak. He’s a pokemon. All he can say is his own name. ‘Marshtomp’.

“Poke…what?”

“Uh…it’s kind of a strange situation here. You see, Marshtomp and I are from a planet called Earth. Some how we wound up here. Another thing is that I was once human and now I’m a bat… like you.”

“Well you should consider yourself lucky. Bats tend to be smarter than humans anyway.”

“Huh…?”

“Ah ha I’m just joking. So have you got a name handsome?”

“Ah…well….uh!” said Brock trying to remember his own name. “Crap! What’s my name?” he thought. “My names….uh… Brock.”

“You’re a funny guy Brock.” she said while giggling.

“Alright! She thinks I’m handsome and funny!” he thought to himself again.

“Anyway, I’m Rouge the Bat; world renowned treasure hunter.”

“Wow. Sounds like a pretty important title.”

“You bet it is.”

“Um… this may be a little forward of me but… could I ask you for a favor?”

“Sure.”

“You see I’m completely lost here. Do you think maybe if I could tag along with you so I could get to know the place?”

“Hmm… I don’t see why not. Okay. Just follow me.” she said as she flew up in the air.

“Okay see that’s another thing I need to tell you about.”

“What do you mean?”

“You see… I don’t know how to fly yet.”

“You what? Oh that’s right. You said you were human before didn’t you?”

“Yeah…”

“Tell you what. Why don’t you come back to my club and I’ll try to teach you to fly tomorrow?”

“That sounds good. Thank you very much.”

“Think nothing of it sweetie. Just come this way.” she said as she grabbed hold of Brock’s hand. That caused him to go off in his expressions and blush.

Back at the club, away from all the loud music and dancing, Brock explained his whole situation to Rouge. He basically had the same story that the others told. They were in Pallet Forest and then the flash of bright white light came and then the strange dimension. Except instead of being struck with a red, blue, purple, light blue, or green light, he was struck with a silver light. He also explained the importance of finding his missing friends. Hopefully Rouge would successfully teach him how to fly so he could go and find them.



Next Day – Emerald Town – 8:54 am

Tails took Ash, Misty, Tracey, and Tikal back to Emerald Town to meet up with there other friends who were staying at Cream’s house. Sonic chose not to come for fear about how Amy would act towards him for telling here to sit this one out. Plus he wanted to figure what Eggman was now up to after his first plan bombed. May, Max, and Cream happened to be outside as the group approached.

“Look! It’s Ash and Misty!” said May excitedly.

“And Tracey too!” said Max.

“Hey Max is with May now!” said Ash. Ash had not yet known that May actually found Max.

“Pika!” said Pikachu sitting on Ash’s shoulder

The two groups of friends approached each other, visibly happy to see each other again. Now only two friends were remaining to be located.

“It’s such a relief to see you guys’ again.” said Misty.

“Ditto. I was getting worried for a while there.” said May.

“Now we still need to find out where Brock and Richie are.” said Tracey.

“I’m sure we’ll find them real soon as well.” said Ash.

Tails and Tikal approached up from behind them.

“Say who are those two?” asked May.

“Oh that’s Tails and Tikal.” said Ash. “They’re some new friends we made while at the Mystic Ruins.”

“Nice to meet you.” said Tails and Tikal at the same time.

Then Cream approached from behind May and Max.

“Hello Tails.” she said.

“Chao-chao!” said Cheese.

“Hey Cream! Hey Cheese!” he said.

“Aww they’re so cute!” said Misty.

“These are our other friends Cream.” said Max. “This is Ash, Misty and Tracey.” he said as he motioned his hand to show who was who.

“Nice to meet you all” she happily said.

“Nice to meet you too.” they all responded.

“Pika-pika!” said Pikachu.

“Azu-Azurill!” said Azurill.

“Oh yeah! These are Ash and Misty’s pokemon, Pikachu and Azurill.” Max said.

“And it’s a pleasure to meet you too.” Cream said the pokemon.

“Chao!” said Cheese.

“Pika!”

“Azurill!”

“Wow! What is that?” Ash said as he pulled out his Pokedex to view Cheese.

“Pokemon Data: Not Available.” it said.

“It may look like it, but Cheese isn’t a pokemon. He’s a chao.” May said.

The reunited friends began talking about what they have been through and the things they’ve seen. Tails also explained to Cream who Tikal was and how she came back mysteriously. Then they all saw a cloud of dust coming from Cream’s house and directly towards them.

“Hm? What is that?” Ash wondered.

“S---O---N---I---C!” screamed a voice. It didn’t take long for Ash to realize who it was. “You’re BACK!”

Just then a familiar pink hedgehog stopped in front of the group. She was also panting really hard trying to catch her breath.

“Amy!” said Tails, Cream, Ash, and May.

“Pi-pi-chu!” said Pikachu.

“Ha….ha…huh? Where’s Sonic?” she said.

“Uh he didn’t come Amy.” said Tails. “He had things to do.”

“OOHHH! That dumb SONIC! He did that just to make me mad!”

“Who is that?” asked Misty.

“Oh yeah, you haven’t met before have you. Misty, Tracey, this is Amy.”

“Um hello Amy.” said Tracey. Amy kind of didn’t pay attention for she was fuming with anger.

“Yes hello Cissy and Macey. Just wait till I get my hands on that Sonic!” she said as she pulled out her hammer and began to walk down the hill.

“Uh my name is Misty!” she shouted at Amy while she was still walking away.

“What exactly does she have against Sonic?” Tracey asked.

“She’s got a super huge crush on him.” said Tails. “And she can’t stand it when he avoids her, though it’s not hard to see why he does.”

“I’ll say.” said Misty. “You’ll never get a guy to like you behaving like that.”

“Then why do you act like that?” asked Ash.

“HHMMM?” she said grabbing hold of Ash’s new whiskers.

“OW!”

“I DO NOT act that way! You take that back Ash Ketchum!”

“Man. Love can sure do strange things to people huh?” said Max.

“Huh… love?” Tails said as he began to question the relationship between Ash and Misty.

“Uh hey Tikal. You haven’t really introduced yourself yet.” said Tracey talking omits all the noise.”

“Yes, I know. I’m just a bit… shy I guess.” she said.

“Don’t worry. I’ll help you if you’d like.”

“That would be nice. Thank you. You’re very kind.”

Tracey then would introduce Tikal to May and Max who were also very happy to meet her. She also got the time to explain her story and where she came from. Hopefully this would be the start of a very big and beautiful friendship.
